perth churchPerth is in a great location to go sightseeing and has plenty of attractions for tourists staying within the town itself.  As Perth is located directly south of Scone, the traditional place for rulers of Scotland to be crowned, there is plenty of historical sights to visit.  Being within close proximity of other regional centres such as Kinross, Dunkeld, Dollar and Pitlochry, and a nice drive from places like Kenmore, Stirling and Dundee, there should be plenty of things to occupy your time if you decide to make Perth the home base of your holiday.

Within Perth itself there are a few key sights that are certainly worth visiting.  Scone Palace, actually located in Old Scone which has effectively become a suburb of Perth itself, was the sight for coronations of Scottish royalty.  The Scone Palace and grounds are quite beautiful, and contain replicas of the Stone of Destiny and several precious antiques.  Within the centre of Perth stands St. Johns Kirk, which is said to be the oldest building left standing in Perth itself – it has been dated back to 1159.  For military buffs, The Black Watch Museum is well worth a visit – it has a huge collection of memorabilia, medals and weapons.  For a great view of Perth it is recommended that you drive or cycle to the top of Kinnoull Hill.

Being a long-established centre of trade, Perth is also home to a large array of shops, pubs and restaurants.  Gift shops and souvenir stores and traditional pubs make the most of the tourists visiting each year, although the town is usually quieter in the winter months.
